Zion dreamed of a career where he could be a leader and aimed to one day own his own business. He had some prior clerical experience and was working to get his GED when he was referred to Skills by a staff member at the transitionary home where he was living. He connected with the Skills Talent Acquisition team to apply for a housekeeping role with one of Skills' healthcare employer partners.
“Open opportunity was the biggest thing,” Zion shared. “I applied immediately and got in the door. Everybody at Skills was great and knew what they were doing. They were all very helpful with my resume and LinkedIn. You could tangibly see the results you put in!”
After being hired, he was promoted twice. “The position taught me how to lead well. With every promotion came more responsibility,” Zion said.
Zion continues to pursue his long-term goals and is leveraging his experience and skills to pursue a career in the military.
