Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc.: 2018 Champion for the Unemployed Award Honoree

The Champion for the Unemployed Award is presented to an employer partner that demonstrates support for Skills by hiring the unemployed, providing pro-bono and financial support, and serves as a corporate advocate.

Walgreens has been a model partner since 2013, deeply engaged and integrated with Skills to impact the lives of the unemployed and underemployed.

Walgreens has hired more than 80 job seekers through Skills. Walgreens was selected as this year’s Champion for the Unemployed due to their years of support and leadership. Executive Vice President and Global Chief Human Resources Officer for Walgreens Boots Alliance, Inc., Kathleen Wilson-Thompson has been a member of Skills’ Board since 2014, and was a key leader in the development of Skills’ expanded youth programing. Walgreens was the first employer to hire young adults through Skills’ Beyond the Diploma initiative. Walgreens has also
provided Skills multiple years of financial support. Skills applauds Walgreens for their commitment to putting the unemployed and underemployed in Chicagoland back to work.

St. Sabina Employment Resource Center: 2018 Advocate for the Unemployed Award Honoree

The Advocate for the Unemployed Award is presented to acommunity or non-corporate partner that collaborates with Skills to drive results, serving as both an advocate for the unemployed and a champion of Skills.

The St. Sabina Employment Resource Center has been a partner of Skills since 2014, and is a vital advocate for the unemployed and underemployed on Chicago’s South Side.

Located in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood of Chicago, The St. Sabina Employment Resource Center has been a consistent candidate referral partner, sharing job-ready adults and youth with Skills. In the past two years, the partnership has strengthened and grown to include on-site hiring events and youth-focused initiatives. These activities have resulted in over 30 hires while serving over 500 local job seekers. Skills admires and applauds the work the St. Sabina Employment Resource Center does for their community and their partnership with Skills to collaboratively place individuals into jobs.
